She has been compared with artists like PJ Harvey, Suzanne Vega and Harriet Wheeler from The Sundays. Her first solo demo was recorded by Chris Thomson from The Bathers (ex member of For Love or money) in 2001, and as a result she has gone on to support various artists including: James Grant, Fish, Midge Ure, Duke Special, Frank Turner, Rose Kemp, Astrid Williamson, The Wrigley Sisters and many more. In 2011 Emma performed at The Tall Ships in Greenock on the Sugar Sheds stage and at L Fest. Emma also supported julie Matthews at Carlisle Folk & Blues Club and in August she supported Brigitte Aphrodite at the Edge Festival in Cabaret Voltaire.
