Elizabeth Lorrey crafts a dark blend of edgy, intense acoustic rock. Slow-cooked, finely seasoned, with a hint of Suzanne Vega simmering in The Cure. Awakening, released to a packed house at the Bull Run's prestigious Sawtelle Room in Shirley, MA, is a powerful opening statement from a singer/songwriter on the rise. While making her first foray into the solo-acoustic realm, Lorrey is by no means a musical rookie. A talented multi-instrumentalist (keys, guitar, bass, voice), she's been performing since the age of eight, beginning with classical piano and continuing through college and beyond as the front woman/guitarist/founder of indie rock bands, Wax Fruit Museum and Crave. The primary creative force behind both bands, she produced and financed their three CDs and many singles, while handling all the booking and business operations. When Crave disbanded, Elizabeth took a brief hiatus from music to try on a "normal life" with a safe and stable career in computer software...

but it was a warm and comfortable jacket that just did not fit. Accepting the clarity of her life's purpose, she quit the corporate world to live her passion: creating music. Pushing "solo-artist" to the extreme, Elizabeth wrote, produced, engineered and performed nearly everything on the aptly-titled, Awakening, an intensely personal collection of songs that explores beginnings and endings and the points in-between. The title cut also appears on the benefit compilation, Acoustic for Autism (WorldSound Records), nestling right at home beside tracks by such Massachusetts music luminaries as Chris Trapper (Push Stars), Kris Delmhorst and Dennis Crommett (Winterpills). Engaging and often funny onstage, Elizabeth delivers her darkly compelling songs in a way that immediately connects with the audience, converting casual listeners into loyal new fans with every performance.

Music lovers everywhere are about to discover what a devoted following in Northern MA already knows: An Awakening is clearly underway… Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
