Electric Sun

At least two bands have gone by the name "Electric Sun": 1) Electric Sun was a psychedelic hard rock band of virtuoso guitarist Uli Jon Roth, formed when he departed from Scorpions in 1978. The musicians in the band changed after each album, Roth being the main man handling guitars and vocals. Discography: 'Earthquake' (1979) 'Fire Wind' (1980) 'Beyond the Astral Skies' (1984) The first two albums are somewhat Jimi Hendrix-influenced rock with a slight 70's heavy metal sound at times. Discography: 'Earthquake' (1979) 'Fire Wind' (1980) 'Beyond the Astral Skies' (1984) The first two albums are somewhat Jimi Hendrix-influenced rock with a slight 70's heavy metal sound at times. The third one, Beyond the Astral Skies, widened the musical scale a lot, resulting an ambitious work of symphonic rock. The albums have been released as many different versions and a bit confusing detail being that some have the name Electric Sun on the cover while some have just Uli Jon Roth. Officially (see Roth's web site) these are considered Electric Sun albums, despite that especially the third one is practically Roth's solo work done with a huge bunch of guest musicians.

Steamhammer has lately released remastered editions of all three albums with some bonus tracks. 2) Electric Sun was also a noise rock/funk/free jazz band. They released their only album called 'Electric Sun featuring John King' in 1994. The line-up was: John King: guitars, vox, H-H Hoppy Kamiyama: keyboards, sample, guitars, gram-pot Otomo Yoshihide: turntable, guitars, shagg-drum Hideki Kato: bass, metal, guitar Hideo Yamaki: drums, bass Yoichi Murata: trombone, kick This is perhaps better tagged as Electric Sun featuring John King.
