Rising out of Canberra Australia, Eldest Son are an alternative rock band with a punk/rock back bone. Over the past 12 months, this 3-piece have been gigging relentlessly the live music scene in and around Canberra. The enthusiasm, determination and commitment Eldest Son have shown toward local bands and events as well as their own music and future has secured them supports with established local artists such as Casual Projects, Epic Flagon, Switch 3, Zero Degrees and Falling, Using Three Words and Lamexcuse. This attitude has also given them the pleasure of sharing stages and events with international and interstates artists such as Jonah Matranga (USA), Avalon Drive (Bris), Something With Numbers (Melb), Horsell Common (Melb) and Unpaid Debt (Syd) - just to name a few! Their influences include past and present legends of the music world such as Incubus, Silverchair, Grinspoon and The Living End. Eldest Son retain their “alternative” sounds from Incubus and Silverchair mainly, an aspect most prevalent in Matt Argy’s guitar work, and in songs from their debut EP such as ‘Small Talk’ and ‘Self Doubt’.

The punk/rock bass lines (Zach Whittaker) and driving drumbeats (Pat Elsley) from Grinspoon and The Living End round out the main influences for Eldest Son and can be found in tracks such as ‘Paranoia Helps’ and ‘Drunk on the Feeling.’ All band members are attending their final year of school at St Francis Xavier College and plan to spend next year writing, touring extensively and hopefully to have another record to show for their hard work by the end of it. Through dedicated networking and a hardworking attitude this is a realistic outcome for Eldest Son. Some of their biggest achievements and accolades to date include releasing their debut EP titled ‘Paranoia’ which was independently funded in July 2006. Winning the Country Energy Star Search competition for 2006 and having two of their songs - "Paranoia Helps" and "Paper Aeroplane" make the finals of the 2005 ‘Australian Children’s Music Fund’ song writing competition were also significant moments for the band. Looking at relocating to Melbourne in 2007, Eldest Son hope to continue their success and leave a strong impression on the Australian music industry. Read more on Last.fm.
