The five members of Elbow, along with conductor Mike Dixon, originally met on the afternoon of Friday 16th January 2008 in Studio One, where they spent 8 hours of rehearsal. Scoring the entirety of the album for the performance was a 52 piece orchestra and 20 member choir, led by arranger Nick Ingham. Richard Hawley joined Elbow for The Fix. The band eventually released the album through their website in 2009. It was then sold through the HMV chain that same year.
