Ed Scissor

Ed Scissor is somewhat of an enigma in the UK hip-hop scene. Cutting his teeth as part of the Contact Play crew, he has forged a niche within the scene as a solo artist, known for creating music that some label ‘beat driven poetry’ and some others as simply ‘fucking good hip-hop’. His first release, a murky cinematic album ten years in the making and ominously named "Better.Luck.Next.Life" dropped late in 2012 under the name Edward Scissortongue, garnering critical acclaim and more than a little bafflement due to its unconventional style. Working almost exclusively with Glasgow-based producer Lamplighter, it was an album that was hard to break down to the sum of its parts.

He released The Theremin in 2014, an ambitious 7 track EP with the themes of death and catharsis at its core. And "Chavassian Striking Distance" with Lamplighter in 2015 with infectious beats, focused rhymes and thick atmosphere. Ed released TTIW with Lamplighter in 2016. which leans on themes of pain, loneliness, vice and even violence, all of which uncomfortably associate with the deepest common emotion, love. Despite the joylessness of the music, that is what underpins the second release from this collaboration and it’s a stroke of genius from the creators seeing as, however inconvenient it may be, love does tend to have dire consequences at some point for us all.
