After a short-lived career in the arts, original members White Nite and J-Filter turned to music as their salvation. Not too long after that Emcee Logical arrived, making the duo a trio all of whom enrolled at the Cape Audio College to further their knowledge of studio production and recording. Then they met the 4th and final crew member - Bonsai Bush, erstwhile vinyl junkie with an ear for production. Performances and Tours Hard work began on crafting a kick-ass live set and it wasn’t long before promoters took and the paying gigs started rolling in.
Highlight shows included stellar performances at the Mixtape Flavour 2 event at Zula Sound Bar (29 April 2006), Live and Direct at Orchard Bank (15 June 2006), 2 MCs and Some DJs at Zula Sound Bar (29th July 2006) and Royalty: A Night With The 3 Kings at Zula Sound Bar (9th September 2006), FOC Brother Hood: A Hip Hop Showcase at Mercury Live (14 September 2007) and Moroka Swallows 60th Anniversary at Moroka Jabavu Stadium Johannesburg (13th October 2007), to name a few. Proving they got game ETC Crew entered - and won - a hip hop contest organised by Street2Street in October 2006, thereby beating off stiff competition from ten of the Mother City’s fiercest ruling hip hop crews including Writer’s Block, Archetypes, Piet Potent and the Dark Lords. Winning the title saw them jetting off on a 10 day tour of Copenhagen, Denmark where they performed no fewer than seven shows to hundreds of eager European hiphop fans. The largest crowd being around 2 000 people at Denmark’s legendary Den Gra Hal (a.k.a. The Gray Hall). ETC Crew’s track The Effect has seen some major rotation on local radio stations UCT Radio and Bush FM, also appearing on the SA MP3 charts (www.samp3.com) twice, the first time reaching the number 6 slot for 3 weeks in a row! The track was subsequently re-mastered and shot to number 3 on the Top 30 SA downloads.
Early in 2007 ETC Crew was asked to submit a track to the Big Love Productions’ CD compilation Antics From Under The Table (a compilation featuring only the freshest urban music acts from around Cape Town). In June 2007 ETC Crew entered the studio to begin recording their debut EP. This features 12 tracks and is destined for big things on the local and international hip hop market, with more radio play and high reaching chart positions expected everywhere their brand of infectious hip hop music is heard.
