The heavy eighties spawned waves of leather clad radio rock bands like Streetheart and Harlequin, then the nineties produced a more melodic sound with the success of the Crash Test Dummies and the Watchmen. As the new millennium approaches, Winnipeg will again take charge with a unique brand of rock - a charge led by Mad Cow recording artists Dik Trickle. Formed by singer Iffy Decision and former bassist Been Therapy in early 1997 and although still fronting his Ramones tribute band ‘The MAROONS’, Kelly Fairchild was enthusiastic to join in on lead guitar. The lineup was complete with L.A. Elektra brought in on drums and Cinder Black on bass guitar.
Dik Trickle was ready to make some serious noise. "It’s almost impossible for anyone to put what we do into a category. We aren’t grunge, we aren’t glam. We are all forms of high energy rock rolled into one explosive package!" Iffy Decision By the spring of 1998, the band had made some significant inroads, playing with such acts as Noise Therapy, Jar and the official Polygram CD release of KISS' Psycho Circus. Adding to this a showcase at the internationally recognized "North by Northeast" Music Festival in Toronto, Canada, numerous live performances on Winnipeg rock radio and TV and also writing/recording a 'novelty' song for rock DJ Dick Rivers entitled 'Bastard' which receives daily regular rotation.
The publics exposure to the band grew quickly. "We’re really your typical bunch of guys who want nothing more than to be able to play their music for a living. The only difference, perhaps, is that we pack more cosmetics than a REVLON counter and more pyrotechnics than a 4th of July parade." Kelly Fairchild In October of 1998, Dik Trickle entered Ambience Professional Recording Studios in Winnipeg to begin demo sessions for their first CD production. The results of these early sessions allowed Dik Trickle to solicit the interest of record producers, management and other industry professionals. The tapes soon caught the ear of producer Eric Brolund who agreed to complete the album.
Further involvement with Mad Cow Records in spring '99 gained the album necessary production and promotional support ensuring an industry release fitting to the look and sound of Dik Trickle - B.A.N.G. "As much as we love to play live, you can only go so far with loud amps" states lead guitarist Kelly Fairchild. "The music must do the talking for you, and the tunes on B.A.N.G. definitely have a lot to say. We aren't here to share deep political issues with you, we just want to knock your socks off and have a good time doing it!" Read more on Last.fm.
