Dicte (given name: Benedicte Westergaard Madsen) was born 9th september 1966 in Glostrup, Denmark. She is a talented singer, songwriter and musician with an impressive career, although she could have deserved more hits. From 1989 to 1993, she was the lead singer in the Aarhus band Her Personal Pain who released 4 songs on a compilation in 1990 and an album in 1992 called Songs from Cinema Café. The music was indie pop/rock and the band won a danish grammy award as best new name in 1992. Since the band broke up, Dicte has pursued a solo career with her first album (Between Any Four Walls) being released in 1994, with sophisticated 90s pop.

This was followed up by Voodoo Vibe recorded in London, produced by Stephen Hague and with contributions from members of James. Back in Denmark she toured with Thomas Blachman and Lennart Ginman among others. In 2000 she released "This is cool" -an album with a distinct touch of soul, already touched upon on Voodoo Vibe. On the track "If this is cool" she collaborated with Pete Smith (producer with Sting a.o.). In October 2003 she released her 4th solo album - the bluesy "Gone To Texas". Since she has released 3 more rock records, by which she has become was a well established act on the danish scene, on radio and the live circuit- although big sales has continued to elude her work.

. In 2006 she did score a big hit single in Denmark with "Drømte mig en lille drøm" - a tv tune for the christmas calendar show "Absalons Hemmelighed" - a rare occasion where Dicte sings in danish on record. She also sung a varied repertoire from jazz to classical in different contexts and formed Dicte & The Sugarbones, lended her vocals to songs by other artists such as Dub Tractor. and sung with Claus Hempler and Mika Vandborg on "the dark and stormy sessions tour"- the tour resulting in a live album in 2013.

Dicte has appeared in films and series , most notably in 1993 in "Smukke Dreng" and in Pusher II. A prominent member in her backing band in the Nineties , The D-Männer, was the multi talented guitarist Troels Bech, former band leader and guitarist in The Poets, originally Poets Of The Signature - in the US and Canada known as The Sealand Poets.
