DexDexter (see also Dex Dex Ter) was a band from England formed in late 1994 when Xavior Roide (Xav) applied to an ad in Melody Maker looking for a singer. The lineup from the beginning was Xavior on vocals, Even on keyboards, Gjeih on guitar, and Gage on bass. The band were named, by Xavior, after the character from the soap opera Dynasty, Dex Dexter (lover of Alexis Colby) in reference to Duran Duran taking their name from a character in the film Barbarella. Rehearsing throughout 1995 they began to play a series of gigs within the London area. In the summer of 1995 at one of the then famous Laurel Tree's Club Skinny nights Xavior and Even handed Kevin Skinny, Club Skinny promoter, a demo tape containing the songs 'Chemistry of Youth' and 'V.D'.

Kevin contacted the band the following day and invited them to come and play at a future Club Skinny. This gig, supporting Brighton based Plastic Fantastic, would sow the seeds of the Romo movement, as then Melody Maker journalist Simon Price, who was djing that night, decided to do a special front-cover Romo feature in November 1995. Dex Dexter soon gained a management team, The Hero Twins (Martin Sexton and Raf). A growing media profile led to record company interest and after the Romo 'On The March' tour of March 1996 (during which the band lineup was briefly augmented by female drummer Elle) Dex Dexter decided to sign with Geoff Travis on his new Trade 2 label owned by Island Records. During the summer of 1996 by band recorded two singles, but due to frictions in the band largely caused by songwriting disagreements, they split in late 1996. One single 'Another Car Another CarCrash' was released in early 1997. Xavior was resigned to Trade 2/Island as a solo artist later that year, but was dropped in the Autumn of 1998, his solo album remains unreleased.

During this time he appeared in the Todd Haines film 'Velvet Goldmine' as the character Pearl. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
