Precision/free-form instrumental desert rock three piece. Brisbane band Del Toro have developed a dedicated fan base in a short time, sharing bills with Trans Am, Brant Bjork & The Bros, Sekiden, I Heart Hiroshima... Influenced by so-called "post-rock" bands (Shellac, Tortoise, Turing Machine, Slint, Mogwai) and the barren soundscapes of Can and Neu!, Del Toro remove themselves to the background to construct layered compositions that often border on the cinematic. Following their sold-out debut CD, the independently recorded and released "Despres" EP, Del Toro are about to release "Formicae." A 5-track EP recorded and mixed in just 3 days by Magoo (Gerling, The Cruel Sea, Regurgitator) and Jeff Lovejoy (Resin Dogs, Six Ft Hick) at Brisbane's Blackbox Studios, it captures the subtleties and nuances as well as the ferocious noise of Del Toro's live performances. Due in September 2006, "Formicae" is released on Valve/MGM. They formed in a stinky, leaky, assymetrical practice room in Brisbane in early 2005. At first, Bre and Jason wanted Adam to sing, but he soon convinced them that wasn't such a good idea, by both singing really badly and playing guitar like someone in an instrumental band.

Influenced by post-rock bands like Tortoise, Slint, and Mogwai, but also increasingly bored with bands that attempt to sit comfortably within that, or any genre, Del Toro strived to put the rock back into post-rock. "Hydra" was released in 2008. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
