This past year has brought many great surprises to the talented artist .Dave Sereny was nominated for Guitarist of the Year and Album of the Year for the 2008 Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. Additionally, he performed live at the stellar event on March 7, 2008, which took place at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. A Canadian native that resides in Toronto, Sereny was a multiple nominee in 2006 and received another nomination in 2007. With the release of Take This Ride on the nuGroove label in 2007, Sereny’s hot guitar licks have hit the smooth jazz scene with a vengeance. Scott O’Brien of SmoothJazz.com declared, “Canadian Guitarist’s Breakthrough Release Wows Smooth Jazz Community.” Special guest appearances by Bob James, Wayman Tisdale, Nathan Watts (Stevie Wonder), and Warren Hill makes this album a must have for any smooth jazz fan. Dave Sereny’s love of music quickly developed when, as a young boy, his older brother Mike took him to the record store and introduced him to an array of musical styles.

From that moment onward, Dave endeavored to make music a way of life. At the age of 9, Dave had the wonderful opportunity to see Doobie Brothers in concert and was truly touched by the melodic experience. Soon afterward, Dave’s older brother Mike once again played a significant part in his career path by purchasing a guitar for him when his just 9 years old. Throughout the years, Dave immersed himself in music culture and sampled music from every genre. While in high school, Dave, who incidentally is the C.E.O.

of an independent record label Groove United, played in a big band and participated in various high school competitions. This Canadian label has grown through the years and now features Dutch Robinson (R&B legend from the Ohio Players), Delilah (Gypsy Pop Diva) and several newly discovered talents ranging from rock to soul. Dave went on to studied composition and arranging at the acclaimed Berklee College of Music. Following his studies, Dave collaborated with some of the most revered jazz musicians of our time, including an assortment of musicians in the New York area. He performed as a member of Phoenix and shared the bill with Stuff (Aretha Franklin’s band).

He has appeared at the Toronto Jazz Festival, the Tel Aviv Jazz festival, the Glen Gould Studio, and had the unforgettably opportunity to play with jazz and rock greats such as Kenwood Denar, Richie Cole, Jose Feliciano, Alex Lifeson of Rush, Rex Smith and Mark Whitfield. Currently, Sereny is gearing up to take his music on the road. With the release of Take this Ride and the award nominations, Sereny is set to take the musical world by storm.
