Daniel Volovets is a guitarist, composer, arranger, and instructor specializing in classical, flamenco, Latin American, and jazz music. Although born in the United States, his music is informed first and foremost by his Russian heritage. Over the past 15 years, Daniel has studied with several guitar masters, including the renowned Russian classical guitarist Anatoly Shapiro, classical/flamenco guitarist Tony Hauser, and the legendary flamenco guitarist "El Payo" Humberto Wilkes, a student of Niño Ricardo (1904 - 1972), considered to have been one of the few true masters of traditional flamenco. Daniel is a prolific performer, giving concerts regularly throughout the Twin Cities. He has performed at a wide range of venues, including the Cedar Cultural Center, the Landmark Center, the Museum of Russian Art, the Saint Paul Public Library, and the Dakota Jazz Club, just to name a few, and has also been sponsored by the Minnesota Guitar Society, Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre, and Casa de España for a variety of performances.

Daniel's mastery of many musical genres and aesthetics is evident in the breadth of his extensive repertoire, which spans numerous countries and eras. He is an accomplished arranger and composer, utilizing the harmonic and tonal possibilities of the guitar in his inventive arrangements and compositions for both solo guitar and various ensembles. Daniel also maintains an active teaching practice, working with students of all ages and skill levels. Daniel is a recent graduate from the University of St.

Thomas with a B.S. in Neuroscience and currently attends the University of Minnesota Medical School. He aspires to balance careers in medicine and music, inspired by the American jazz pianist/psychiatrist Denny Zeitlin and Polish composer/otolaryngologist Krzysztof Komeda. Daniel has recorded five CDs, Watercolors of the World (2008), Silhouette (2009), Rite of Passage (2011), Rainy Highway (2014), and Wistful Tendrils (2015), and is currently working on two more: an album of Russian music titled "Echoes of Love," and an album inspired by the music of the circus, tentatively titled "Masquerade." He plays a custom-made 2011 flamenco negra guitar built by luthier Stephen Kakos.
