Overview Dan Kempster is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (primarily a drummer) from Tring, UK. His love affair with playing and writing music began in 2007, when along with friends Joe Watson and James Ashwell he founded the self-styled 'regressive rock' band Self Diagnosis, serving as their drummer, primary lyricist and occasional vocalist. The band released one album, 2007's Remnants, before disbanding in late 2008 due to other commitments. In January 2012 Kempster, along with Mike Code, Ant Butler-Lee and Iain Russell, founded the band Sudden Gunfire, taking up residence behind a drum kit for the first time in over three years. Sudden Gunfire have worked hard to establish themselves as a respected rock covers act, playing pubs, charity gigs and other functions alongside such bands as Old Country Union.

Sudden Gunfire are currently establishing themselves on the Hertfordshire touring circuit, and have no imminent plans to record any material. Throughout 2012 and 2013, Kempster devoted most of his creative energy to writing and recording original material. The resulting album, titled Project 17, was released digitally in December 2013, with a physical CD release following in April 2014. As of August 2014 Kempster currently has no plans to record a second album, but has not ruled out the possibility entirely. Influences Kempster cites The Who's Pete Townshend and The Jam's Paul Weller as his primary lyrical influences. A self-taught drummer, Kempster's playing style is influenced by the likes of Steve Gorman (The Black Crowes) and John Bonham (Led Zeppelin).
