DAN DECALUT (°1969) ... Later on he started to add sounds from organic and non-organic materials -like stones, wood, glass, matches, mud, insects,... - to his repertoire of soundsources. These resulted in live outputs performed in various small venues. From then on he was also asked to collaborate in diverse art-projects with a.e. audio-visual installations. From then on he was also asked to collaborate in diverse art-projects with a.e. audio-visual installations. All his experiences are now to be found on "witte doos", mixing with recent ways of making/recording sounds. On this cd one can hear recordings of a.e.

water boiler, toy- guitar, matches, insects, field recordings, audio-visual installations, vocals,... The way the compositions come to be is not something that is thought about, it just happens. Intuition. One becomes the sound.

Intonation and color are the two main ingredients that form the basic of each composition. On this cd, contact-microphones where used to give the sound direct of the object itself, as from within, wich gives about half of the recordings on this cd. The composition 'lange haak in zicht', to give an example, tells the story of two parents who are arguing about something which gives the children, age two and four, a reason to run away from home, take a bus, find a wind-up doll and play around till the doll stops to function. On this composition one can hear field recordings, a 12" Paiste and an electronic gadget with low energy batteries.

Here the use of both the common and contact-microphone are used in a way it gives a certain intonation. 'de dag daarna zaat on ice' & 'zondag voeding dagdamp', both compositions, generated out of audio-visual installations, are given in fragments. Some last for 0,01 seconds. All the sounds here (exept for the knock on the door which is my lovely neighbour, and voice/s) are from the installation itself.

The voices where from people in a café whose vibrations where absorbed through one installation (my atelier is just above the café).
