Daithi Rua (Irish for red David) is an Irish musician and songwriter from Shannonbridge in county Offaly. Brought up by musical parents, he was given the songs of the Dubliners and Planxty to eat and drink and later digested artists like the Furey's, Christy Moore, Moving Hearts in the 1980's. He never seemed to get full and apart from singing in his parents’ folk band as a teenager, Daithi took part in several musical productions both in school and in local musical societies. No stranger to treading the boards, he went on to win several talent shows and busking competitions. By the time he left school he had been making a living from music and had started writing songs. Now based in Belgium, Daithi has been playing music for the best part of fifteen years and his tours take him all over mainland Europe, the U.K., Ireland, Scandinavia and the Middle East both as a solo performer and with different musical outfits such as COMAS, Helen Flaherty and Aidan Burke. Daithi has appeared on local and national Tv and radio and his songs have been recorded and considered by many well established artists and he has been acknowledged by his contemporaries to be an artist of great future potential. His influences today include artists such as Luka bloom, Nanci Griffith, Andy Irvine, Paul Brady, Mick Hanley and Tom Russell to name a few. "It seems like only yesterday that a little red haired boy came for his first guitar lesson.

How the years have flown and David a.k.a. Daithi Rua has matured into the dynamic player, singer, songwriter which the world knows today. Keep up the good work - we watch your every move with great anticipation!" - Tony Holleran "It was a great pleasure for me to play some songs with Daithi. He's not only a great singer and composer but he surely knows how to play the guitar.

Good that he's living in Belgium now, so we can have some more songs together." - Philip Masure "I first met Daithi Rua when we did a gig together on the banks of the river Shannon in his native Co. Offaly in the early nineties. Although a comtemporary folk musician and writer, I was struck with his integrity and sensitivity of his native roots, unlike so many post-modern Irish writers. His recorded work is filled with warmth, commitment and originality and with the didactic quality so central to genuine art." - Jimmy Crowley (c) www.daithirua.com Read more on Last.fm.
