By experiencing professional, positive music firsthand, DJ Kross hopes to bring these two elements back into the mainstream. DJ Kross first got into producing from his brother, who introduced him to FL studio. Amazed at the myriad of composition possibilities, Kross instantly became addicted to FL and began to compose his own music, starting from jazz and later progressing to hip hop as he developed his basketball skills at the same time, watching bball freestyle vids on youtube, which were usually accompanied by hiphop music. Kross finally discovered Jazzhop one day when he was exploring music on youtube and found Nujabes. In love with not just the emotional and deep chord changes, but also the general attitude of enjoying music rather than hating, Kross began to dive into Jazzy hip hop music.
His first album, Scenes from Nature, was an experimental album that blended Nujabes' style with Kross' own jazzy background. Somewhat of a failure, Kross tried harder to create his next album. After experiencing this failure, DJ Kross understood that one of the main problems with his first album was that there were no rappers or singers on his beats; there was no human nor mundane connection in his music, as it was generally electronic, thus, in his next album 1ove (1 love) Kross strove to make it the biggest collaboration ever for not just listening pleasure, but also for worldwide promotion. Although it took nearly 8 months to complete and sounds extremely boring and bad to Kross from hindsight, Kross is somewhat more satisfied with this album than his last.
So far, 1 Love has climbed up to #3 on Best-Selling Hip Hop CDs on bandcamp after its pre-orders was released yesterday. DJ Kross still hopes to do better. He hopes to be able to penetrate into the mainstream with his next album and really shape modern society into a positive environment that everybody deserves. Aside from playing music, Kross also analyzes music and its chord changes everyday as practice. He believes that one needs to understand a great deal of music before one can compose music and so he explores all styles of music in his free time. DJ Kross also enjoys freestyle rapping, singing, mixing/mastering tracks, freestyling basketball, photoshoping artwork, dancing (bboying and cwalking), practicing taichi, meditation and spiritual growth, eating and sleeping "As the middle class and music industry rise, people will tune in to less of the 'hoodrat', 'gangster' music and more into quality music, which is where I come in ;)" -DJ Kross (Taken From Kross' FB) Read more on Last.fm.
