Common Era

In a fit of boredom and after a prolonged creative stagnation, during the summer of 2005, the idea came about to start a Joy Division cover band. It was a novel idea at the time, and still is, I think, in the ever-growing strip mall that is Columbia, Missouri. In a fit of boredom and after a prolonged creative stagnation, during the summer of 2005, the idea came about to start a Joy Division cover band. It was a novel idea at the time, and still is, I think, in the ever-growing strip mall that is Columbia, Missouri. A college town full of transplanted, angst-ridden students and aging townies looking down both ends of the same dark musical tunnel. From one end we see the "retro".

From the other we can see the glimmer of nostalgia. Either way, somewhere in the middle of that tunnel is a band like Joy Division. Anyhow, given what reverence Zac and I have for that band, we decided to try our own thing and leave the cover band idea behind for the time being. Having only recently relearned how to play our instruments, and without a drummer, that project seemed to be somewhat out of reach.

So we began to write our own songs, and after a few months, we decided to take the project more seriously. Practicing more often and procuring adequate equipment was a start, but like so many plans, this too was shuffled aside all too often. After a year and a half of writing, practicing, procrastinating, lineup changes, scheduling difficulties and an always troubling laziness on my part, we finally managed to get the ball rolling. Let's hope it continues to do so.

In short, we are Common Era. Like the best beer: dark, bitter and hoppy. -Jeff Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
