Born in Boulder, Colorado, Christiana has been writing stories since the third grade when her tales about heroic interstellar adventurer Robert Quentin Space earned her funny looks from everyone around her. Born in Boulder, Colorado, Christiana has been writing stories since the third grade when her tales about heroic interstellar adventurer Robert Quentin Space earned her funny looks from everyone around her. In the sixth grade, she also discovered a love of performance, when she volunteered to go on-stage and help sing La Bamba at a local concert, despite not knowing any of the lyrics. This led to her joining a local children's theater group, providing her first experience in doing fun creative things for money. She has not managed to replicate that since, but remembers it fondly. In high school, she channeled her creative energies into her school's Speech and Debate team, competing primarily in Interpretation of Humorous Literature, making the final round at the National Qualifying Tournament in both her junior and senior year, and placing as first alternate to Nationals as a senior. Underneath all of this creative artiness, she also showed an aptitude for Science and Math, and so when she entered the University of Colorado at Boulder, she decided to enroll in the Chemical Engineering program, on the reasoning that, transferring out would be easier than transferring in, so if she was going to try it at all, she should start there first. It all seemed perfectly logical, except that she never actually transferred out, and before she knew it, she had actually achieved a B.S.

in Chemical Engineering. After graduation, she worked in a day care center and lived with her dad. That was only for a few months though, because then she was hired to move to Raleigh, North Carolina, to work as an engineering consultant for pharmaceutical companies. She's been doing that ever since, but the very technical work left her with the need for additional creative outlets. A little vignette that she'd written a year or two before had been lingering with her ever since, and before long, she realized that this little vignette really wanted to be a novel, and the central character, a serious-minded young barbarian girl, insisted that her story be told. This story became Nina Kimberly the Merciless. Christiana spent the next year or so writing the book, and the next few after that trying to find something to do with it. After some initially promising but eventually disappointing attempts to publish the book traditionally, she had placed poor Nina on the back-burner. Then, in September of 2005, Christiana got into podcasting, and has since started several shows, Christiana Talks About Stuff, 50 Pounds, 6 Months, and most recently, Hey, want to watch a movie? In December 2005, Christiana collaborated with three other writers on the script for A Podcast Christmas Carol, a project which involved dozens of podcasters in an hour-long podcast-themed adaptation of the classic Christmas tale. The idea of podcasting Nina had occurred to her relatively early on, but the idea was still scary, so it took her a while to reach the decision that now seems as though it was inevitable.
