Choirs of St Mary's, Beddington

The choir at St Mary's is a highly-regarded group of boys and adults which sings from a large and varied repertoire of traditional English church music. In August 2008, St Mary’s Boys’ Choir along with St. Mary’s Adult Choir (alto, tenor and bass voices) enjoyed a successful tour of the Rhineland, including a High Mass at Sinzig. Items sung at this venue include the beautiful boys’ anthem Ex Ore Innocentium along with the majestic and flowing Geistliches Lied by Brahms. Read more on Last.fm

St. Goar, an attractive tourist location and our first concert venue, offered stunning acoustics despite a railway line perhaps a little too close to the church for comfort. From St.Goar we bring performances of Hear My Prayer by Mendelssohn, Sicut Cervus by Palestrina, a welsh lullaby from the boys’ choir and a most moving rendition of the Pie Jesu in which the boys’ choir is joined by Sue Ardley on the ‘cello. Performing at Mass and Benediction at Cologne’s St.

Maria in der Kupfergasse, gave us a taste of Baroque splendour and liturgical theatre, while singing in Cologne cathedral itself in front of literally hundreds of visitors, might be described as the highlight of the tour. Items recorded during our day in Cologne include the Magnificat by Herbert Howells and the beautiful Renaissance motet Ave Verum Corpus by William Byrd. Lastly, we feature the final concert in our beautiful “home” church at Bad Hönningen (pictured, right), whose fine, recently refurbished organ can be heard to good effect in the organ Toccata by Leon Boelmann and where the superb acoustics can be readily appreciated in the Kyrie by Louis Vierne. Also featured from this wonderful concert are the rich harmonies of the eight-part motet Crucifixus by Lotti. The standing ovations from large and appreciative audiences were in recognition of the glorious sound and professional standard achieved, particularly by the boys.

We are proud of our boys-only top line whose purity of tone is exceptional, proving that BOYS CAN AND DO SING, given the right environment and training. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
