Chants of Maldoror

The Chants Of Maldoror were formed in December 1994, when Adolphe (vocals) and David (bass), both coming from a previous and unfruitful experience, joined Echo (keys/synth/piano) and Loren (guitars/programming) to start a project of medieval/ritualistic music. They got the band’s name from “Les Chants De Maldoror”, a prose poem by Isidore Ducasse (1846/1870), which is considered a masterpiece of the unreal and a decadent manifesto of surrealistic imagery. As time went by, the C.O.M. changed their sound until reaching a more rock-oriented form, as stated by their first official release, the demotape “Ritual Death”, out in 1997 and presented with a live performance at the Italian goth festival “Ascension Of The Gods”, where they shared the stage with many well-known international bands.

This show was soon followed by other live acts, and “Ritual Death” had a strong presence on European and overseas fanzines and magazines. In June 2000 the first C.O.M.’s full-length cd, “Thy Hurting Heaven” is released through the labels Radio Luxor/SPV, and immediately captures the media attention worldwide, presenting a new evolution of songwriting and leading the band to the status of “European gothrock cult band”. Soon followed lots of promotional shows across Europe in small clubs as well as on important stages such as the performance at the “11th Wave Gotik Treffen” international festival in Leipzig, Germany (only Italian band of the bill), the one at Wien’s “Music Planet” club and the most recent at the “T.H.H.” promotion gigs at the legendary Amsterdam’s “Paradiso” club. Their last released cd is "Every Mask Tells The Truth". Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
