Zhang Le began professional vocal training in 1994 and by the time when she was 18 had won first place in the Casio Singing Competition in Shanghai. She subsequently won a competition hosted by the China Central Audio Station and recorded her first song "Scarf" in 1998. She has performed on local chinese television and recorded 4 theme songs for well-known TV drama and comedy shows. She has performed on local chinese television and recorded 4 theme songs for well-known TV drama and comedy shows. She was invited by Canadian guitarist Jesse Cook to be guest artist for his singapore tour in 2002, and she recorded jazz versions of three chinese songs, which have been released by EMI in Asia on a album entitled Shanghai Jazz: Musical Seductions from China's Age of Decadence in 2005.

Zhang Le performed as lead singer at the Hilton Shanghai from 2000 to 2004. She has been granted a scholarship at the New England Conservatory of Music and has been in Boston for 2 years. She studies with Dominique Eade, John McNeil, Ran Blake and Hankus Netsky. Zhang Le was invited to perform at the Wang Centre by Asian American Civic Association in Feburuary, 2006, and is noted for her capacity to transform traditional Chinese songs into jazz.

She joined world famous chinese composer Tan Dun's latest production this summer in shanghai. As the soloist, zhang le sang the theme song which was called "the music of the wind". This production had its premiere in ShaoLin Temple in October,2006, and is going to perform regularly for the tourists from all over the world. Read more on Last.fm.
