These early years soaking up sacred music planted the seed that would continue to grow throughout her life. Having an intensive career as a singer on the pop charts in the early nineties, Carmella opened for artists as diverse as Eartha Kitt, Darryl Braithwaite and Jenny Morris, with rave reviews such as ‘A soaring celebration of contemporary world Music’ (Who Weekly) Dissatisfied with the machinations of the pop music industry, Carmella digressed to the study of classical singing, and with a promising career as a classical singer, she fell deeply in love with plainsong, renaissance, European art song and Church Music: it was here that she truly discovered the purity of music and this study continued for 10 years. All the while, her deep and committed spiritual practice of meditation and yoga maintained her soul and her singing voice. On completion of her studies Carmella dived into World Music: from Celtic to African and Kowali and from there found her way her back to her old stomping ground, this time through the practice of Kirtan, call and response chanting in Sanskrit. Carmella has indeed ‘come home’ to Kirtan and has for the past 15 years travelled the world singing and facilitating singing groups, sound meditation workshops, kirtans and choirs. Carmella is passionate about to the use of group singing as a healing force, as a vehicle for transformation, and as a link to the Divine, and she works to combine yogic philosophy and meditation with voice technique, to assist people of all walks of life to access their true powerful, beautiful and Divine voice.
