Name: Caleb Brumbelow Age: Born in May of 1981 Profession: Music Therapy Student at Marylhurst University Residence: Gresham, Oregon Current Band: 404 Previous Bands: * 1992: Prestige * 1993-94: Guys Named Jim * 1995-97: Haley Road * 1998: Two of Us * 1998-00: Ebb Tide * 2001-04: Climber * 2006-07: Echelon * 2007-Current: 404 Caleb loves music. He started recording on a home stereo and then graduated to a 4-track, to ADATs, to Digidesign’s Pro Tools LE which he used to record When I was Sick. His first band Prestige was composed of two sets of brothers. Caleb’s brother Zach played the drums (actually when the band first started Zach was playing cardboard boxes and metal but saved up enough for a “real” kit soon after). (Okay, Caleb wasn’t quite that young, but this is the group before the “group” formed). When Caleb turned 12 he started writing songs for his next band which shopped at second hand stores to outfit themselves with gas station shirts with the name “Jim.” Then Haley Road started, recorded a three song CD and made a great finish with an evangelistic trip to north India.

Many of the photos and distortions of photos in the design of When I was Sick were taken on that trip to India. The Two of Us had three members. They only had one gig, at a church youth group, but managed to produce a CD that is still enjoyed by Caleb’s kids today. The band was trying to be funny, and with the help of one of its members, Lane Demas, it was pretty funny, to the three of them at least. Ebb Tide was far more serious, maybe to a fault, but the group spurred each other on to raise the musical standard of each member. They released Save Me with the help of Dean Baskerville, then as they were breaking up, they put out their 2nd and last CD 900 People. Michael Nelson, the bassist for Ebb Tide, took on the role of songwriter and got back together with Caleb.

They played a couple gigs with Caleb playing keyboards and drums. Along the way they picked up some of the members of Ebb Tide forming the name Climber and released a self titled EP. Caleb left the band in fall of 2004 but continues to look up to the musicality of the group and especially Michael’s songwriting. After going through a trial for a long season, Caleb was asked to start a new group with Ed Baker and Ebb Tide’s lead singer who by now was also Caleb’s brother-in-law, Marc Peter. The group named themselves Echelon. After Marc dropped out of the band, Caleb and Ed continue to write and record under the name 404.
