Book of Dead Names

Book of Dead Names were a band formed in Minneapolis in the Spring of 1999 by Jamie Munsen and Travis Bos (Song of Zarathustra and Chariots), with an ever evolving lineup (originally consisting of Andy Richardson (The Crush, Infinity Dive), Eric Newberg and James Russell (Cadillac Blindside, The Cardinal Sin).) Within months they had recorded a seven song demo which eventually became a split 7" w/Remingtin: West Fucking Triad (Blood Of The Young Records) as well as a 5" split w/Jerome's Dream (Witching Hour Records). The releases were followed by a US tour which featured shows alongside the likes of The Locust, Reversal Of Man, Combatwoundedveteran and Bread and Circuits. While on this tour, the band also recorded a seven song live set at WFMU which is yet to be released. The Fall of 1999 saw the departure of bassist Jamie and drummer Eric, with Seth Johnson (formerly of Infinity Dive and 1919) taking up bass duties and Mark Jorgenson (Song of Zarathustra) taking a seat behind the drums, while Matt Rezak (Floodplain, Monarques) was also added to the lineup on keyboards and backing vocals. Before long, Song Of Zarathustra had agreed to reform and Book Of Dead Names looked set to record a final 7" for Blood Of The Young Records. With studio time booked, new members Seth and Mark both quit the band, with Matt Rezak moving to bass duties and Jon Ness (The Crush, Die Electric) joining on drums. Over the course of a year, BODN changed their minds on the 7" format and agreed to write extra songs, enough for a proper LP release.

The 27-minute, 13-track album The Story Unfolds was released by Blood of the Young in July 2002. BODN never "officially" broke up, but instead consider themselves a "project with friends" and play at random. The line up is always fluctuating, but always includes James and Andy on guitar and Travis on vocals. As of June, 2012 BODN will be writing again with Andy and James on guitar, Travis on vocals, Tim Holly on Bass and Mark Jorgensen on drums. http://www.myspace.com/thebookofdeadnames Read more on Last.fm.
