There are at least two bands with the name "Boathouse". Boathouse began with childhood friends Gerry McCrudden and Kieran Hughes. Soon they gathered their eclectic recruits: Micky McAuley (Bass), Keir Hurley (Drums), and lastly Amy McGarrigle (Vox/guitar). Gerry and Kieran’s musical disguises were numerous from school, but it wasn't until 2006 that they settled on Boathouse. Gerry and Kieran’s musical disguises were numerous from school, but it wasn't until 2006 that they settled on Boathouse. After releasing an initial demo and a few line-up changes, Boathouse began playing a host of dates around Northern Ireland. The name began to spread, and their reputation went before them as a band. As BBC’s Stuart Bailie said in an interview, [Boathouse] are all about the intensity live with “eyeballs bulging and perspiration on the forehead”.

Gerry nicely replied, “like a minor beating around the head”. With such a reputation live, Boathouse went into the studio with the intent of reproducing that intensity for the record. The “What I Remember’ EP was the result and didn't disappoint. They had airplay on BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Radio 1 N and supported the likes of the Guillemots, Bowerbirds, Eugene McGuincess and Shearwater. They were said to have elements of Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, The Hold Steady, Roy Orbison and Interpol.
