Under his guidance, turntablism, hip-hop and house mixes blend everything from jazz to new wave, oldies to drum & bass, electro to downtempo. The result? Hours of club-rocking entertainment. Growing up as Keith Richard Waye in small-town Pueblo, CO, Destro lived a life shaped by music from the beginning. His father, a music aficionado who still boasts a private record collection that far exceeds his son’s, had the prescience to name him after one of modern music’s icons: Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones.
After playing guitar for 12 years, Destro found the turntables in the mid-1990’s and hasn’t looked back. During his Colorado years, Destro reveled in a diet of hip-hop, trip-hop, drum & bass and classic breaks that led him to perform in clubs and become a regular name in the local battle scene, placing amongst the top competitors in battles such as DMC's, Guitar Center’s Spin-Off & DJ Vajra’s Bart's Battle. Friendships with b-boys and b-girls resulted in a shift towards dance music in the late 1990’s and, eventually founded the Mad Scienz urban performance art crew and a regular spot on the influential internet radio show Basementalism from Radio 1190 at CU in Boulder, Colorado. The frenetic pace of Destro’s professional life had only just begun.
By 2004, Destro was splitting his time between Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles, where he embarked upon a series of high-profile performances at major venues such as The House Of Blues (L.A.), San Francisco’s legendary Fillmore Auditorium and The Rio’s Voodoo Lounge, and prestigious events, ranging from Cirque du Soleil’s Mystere 5,000th Show Celebration to the Las Vegas Magic Convention, the Billboard Music Awards to the Alma Awards. At the same time, Destro found time to produce a series of highly coveted mix CDs and original tracks, and tour with live music acts, including The Procussions, The X-ecutioners, Pharcyde and Digable Planets. By 2005, Destro had signed on as the official DJ for The Margarita King, a beverage company known for its celebrity following and star-studded parties. In 2006, Destro fulfilled his long-time wish to move to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he currently lives with his wife, Crystal and 1 year old son, Kadence.
With ongoing gigs on the Vegas Strip, a residency at Temple, an innovative club venue and part of the San Francisco Zen Compound entertainment and lifestyle complex, the 2008 release of Pinball Wizard on the Temple Music Group label and several forthcoming compilation, remix and solo projects in the works, Destro shows no signs of slowing down.
