Classic Irish Traditional songs given the 'Billy' treatment. These albums were created in the 1970s , My really good old friend Bill his sons and I played the areas of Chapel St Salford,Oldam Rd Ancoats, Hyde Rd, Cornbrook, Stockport Rd , Bredbury , Denton & Middleton. Billy would bring in an cassette recorder whilst we were playing and just record for fun what we were playing on stage, I originally played drums with Billy for around 8 years until his son Seamus dared to bring in his guitar sheepishly plugging in when I told him to, with Billy glaring as usual at anything that had to make him think about anything different that was going to happen on stage, like his original drummer Kevin Mulholland was glared at when he put me on his drums having never sat behind a drum kit before in the Lord Nelson Chapel St Salford after Kevin had been teaching me drums each week at his home on a block of rubber covered wood, we managed to keep Seamus plugged in for the next 12 months becoming a proficient lead guitar player, everything was going well until I received the glare of Bill again when his other son Liam wanted to learn drums, so after each gig there were lessons on the pub tables until the groan of Billy when I put him on my drums, well Billy had to get used to the fact that we were now a 4 piece, I now jumping on to rhythm guitar which is where I started as a fill in rest for him when I was a young kid at the Lord Nelson, he secretly loved this as there were more bodies to carry the gear , Bill ever had envisaged playing on stage with his sons but I am so pleased to have initiated, Billy would never admit to being wrong but , it was his way which we all loved him for and I think he would admit he was wrong to glare at me then, in fact only once in our friendship did he admit being wrong and I was right but that was another story shared only between he & I. Billy and I always had the banter of me calling him dad as he was older than I and when his sons ended up on the stage his age was obviously cramping his style hence ” the brothers ” were as they became known.
