Big Bad Mutha Fuka

Big Bad Mutha Fuka has been described by its original compiler as a "multi-hour extravaganza of Black Action Cinema Scores and Themes". Big Bad Mutha Fuka has been described by its original compiler as a "multi-hour extravaganza of Black Action Cinema Scores and Themes". Originally compiled by one self-named blogger "RecordBrother", the album was an idea that was pitched to an undisclosed record label, only to be rejected after being told that a similar compilation was in the process of being released. RecordBrother later explains that the compilation album that did result turned out to be another generic attempt at capturing the music of this genre. As a result, on January 9th 2006, the first instalment in a three part series was posted on the RecordBrother blog with a little over 30 music files in the mp3 format without a tracklist. One that he mentioned earlier having taken to the label company but having later misplaced.

Shortly after, the second and third volumes were posted making a total of 88 tracks in the series. RecordBrother stated that although he was unable to fetch the original song list, all the music featured on this compilation was sourced from the original Blaxploitation soundtrack vinyls that were a part of the blogger's collection. After repeated listens one can ascertain that the music has been handpicked from a variety of movies spanning over a large portion of the era. The compilation hails major artists and composers such as Isaac Hayes, Barry White, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Melvin Van Peebles, Roy Ayers, Grant Green and Last Poets rapper Lightnin' Rod to name a few. Other artists included several african american performers and actors who had been popularized by the genre.

Alongside the music, several tracks feature excerpts from movie dialogues which add further character to this compilation. In conclusion, this three part set does justice to the Black Action Cinema Soundtrack genre due to extensive sourcing. Also, the vast array of musical styles that this particular collection addresses is done in a way that almost all other compilation attempts, whether commercially available or works by other blogger enthusiasts, fall short of achieving. The "Big Bad Mutha Fuka" collection, apart from the fitting title, manages to create a musical experience and a certain flavor that makes it a timeless masterpiece which is tragically unavailable to the general audience.
