Born in Chicago, IL, Jamal Murray also known as BTA was almost destined to be a statistic. From life in the ghetto, to living in a homeless shelter with his wife and kids, BTA endured it all. It was in high school while experiencing intense bullying that he turned to music as a way to escape. Still, that wasn’t enough.

BTA knew Jesus, but his relationship with the lord was rocky. “I remember thinking to myself; is this what life is about as a follower of Jesus? Heart break, rejection and insecurities? If so, I didn’t want to have anything else to do with the lord.” BTA dropped out of high school and eventually fell into the night life of hanging out in the street and smoking marijuana. He eventually met the love of his life Elainna and soon after that had a son which God used to begin to change his life. But again, tragedy struck and BTA and his family found themselves living in a homeless shelter in Chicago. BTA found a way out through the Air Force but that was short lived. Finally after failing to find a way out of his situations through the world, BTA turned back to Jesus.

BTA repented for walking away and on one fateful Sunday laid all of his troubles down before the alter, moving the pastor to dismiss church early. Since then, BTA has given his life to serving the lord and preaching hope, truth and freedom through his music. “The difference is now I have a relationship with Jesus. Everything I ever went through I know that Jesus understands because although he is the son of God, he was also mortal just like you and me. He felt and still does feel the pain we feel. But his death on the cross was the biggest display of compassion in the history of the world.

But guess what, just as he rose and defeated death, we can rise from our situations and have a life of peace through Jesus Christ.” Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
