Basil's Kite are an experimental rock band from Wollongong, Australia. They play a varied style of music heavily influenced by jazz, math rock and hardcore. They are currently a four piece comprised of Jack Tickner (Guitar,Bass, Vocals), Jacob Spinks (Bass, Vocals), Reagen Jones (Drums) and Jonathon Tooke (Guitar, Production). Birthed in May 2011 as a Neutral Milk Hotel cover band, Basil's Kite was a five piece with Jake Walker (Reactionary, Four4) on guitar and Andrew Hodgins (King Dog & The Cats) on saxophone and vocals alongside the current lineup minus Jonathon. After spending one gig as a covers band they then began focusing completely on writing original music. Shortly after recording a demo in February 2012 Jake left the band to pursue electronic music as Reactionary and the band continued on as a four piece.

In June 2013 they released their first ep 'Technicolour Fuckfest' with Jonathon Tooke (My Little Underground) as producer. After this release Jonathon began playing with the band and soon became a full time guitarist and producer for the band. With all members actively composing for the band, their output became more and more compositionally dense until their second ep in January 2015 'Celestial Shitshow', where the band began to branch into heavier and more stylistically versatile territory. Mid year after the release of 'Celestial Shitshow' saxophonist Andrew Hodgins left the band to work full time on an indie video game project. In lieu of losing their saxophonist, Basil's Kite began writing a completely new music taking influence from the micro-compositional writing style of bands like Yowie, Psyopus and The Dillinger Escape plan and began to hone in on a more consistent sound. In 2016 they are touring the east coast of Australia and writing and recording their third studio release. Read more on Last.fm.
