A student of film at Howard University, Ivey recorded Basehead's debut album on his basic home set-up with minimal help from Hendrix and Howard. Originally released by small independent concern Emigre in 1991, "He debuted with Play With Toys (1992, 1992 in music), which became a critical success and college radio hit. Ivey assembled a band and recorded Not in Kansas Anymore, which received mixed reviews. He was active in the tracking community during the 1990s and was a member of the groups Five Musicians and Kosmic Free Music Foundation. As part of Straylight Productions his music featured in many games including Unreal, Unreal Tournament and Deus Ex. He co-composed two CD albums AtmosphereS: Cultures and AtmosphereS: Pulses together with Alexander Brandon, and had one single track release entitled "Beacon" on the netlabel Monotonik.
