Bandit Queen

Imagine the Breeders fronted by Alison Moyet and that's a good approximation of this Manchester, England trio. They combine a melodic but combustible, bass-fueled bluesy cocktail with soulful-but-scarred vocals. Raised on an eclectic mix of of Motown, Al Green, scratchy blues, post punk and Blondie, Tracy Godding (vocals/ guitar), Janet Wolstenholme (bass/ vocals), and David Eric Galley (drums/ vocals) convey melodic, bluesy, soulful and slightly offbeat rock. Bandit Queen were named after the Indian outlaw Phoolan Devi. Their debut album presents a powerful, razor-edged, mix of angst, revenge and sex. P.E.T. or 'Precious equipment trolley', their second album, has been posthumously released 8 years after the tragic death of the band in 1997.

P.E.T. remained unreleased due to the record company wrangles which also led to the eventual split of the tightest and most exciting three piece in the pop/rock stratosphere. Their last recordings still sound fresh, eclectic and darkly innocent and carry the same integrity of lyric. PET was recorded at Parr Street studio in Liverpool, produced by Mark Freegard (Pixies/Breeders) and Bandit Queen.
