Band Aguasaveña

Band Aguasaveña? Can you believe that's the information right off the disc. Universal treats it's Latin properties, especially it's Mexican regional stars, like they were disposable which is a damn shame. Banda Guasaveña (de Valentin Elizalde) is the Mexican Banda group that backed Valentin Elizalde. Their hits with him include "Esta Cobardia", "Ebrio De Amor", "Y Se Parece A Tí" and his best known albums such as "Soy Asi" and "Vencedor". The band itself is led by Tano Elizalde, cousin of Valentin, and clarinet player. Read more on Last.fm

This is their first record since since Valentin's untimely death in November of 2006. "A Dedicato A Tí" shows the band is STILL one of the finest examples of the genre. Precision tight and musically muscular they create a wondrous wood wind/horn based sound that move your feet to dance. This band is simply one of the finest, rock solid, bands of their type anywhere in the world today.

A bit more laidback than usual after the year they've had who can blame them for taking things easily as they move back into spotlight of Mexican pop culture. Not for everyone. But the adventurous and open minded can find Banda Guasaveña a delicious guilty pleasure. This Gabacho does.

Though their overall sound is a bit different without Valentin singing the band members who step up to do the job do a great job especially Adair Elizalde and Juan Ramon. While you miss Valentin's vocals their is NO REASON not to enjoy this great little CD for exactly what it is. A heartfelt tribute to a lost brother and one heck of A GREAT banda album Standout Tracks: Solo Un Sueño, the first single. Ya No Te Creo Nada - Killer Beat and horn work Se Me Antoja - Nice workout between the brass and wood winds. Great beat and a really strong hook in the chorus. Nice vocals. La Mujer De Chon - All about that beat. Señora Equivocada - a remake (the exact smae backing track? sure sounds like it) of a song Valentin sang.

It shows up the real differences in the bands sound now. Not as punchy or as the original it lacks a bit of Valentin's fire but still something of a pleasant shock to see it there. It comes off as a statement that this is their music too as much as it was Valentin's and establishes their credibility and right to use it.
