Back to the Sea

Back to the sea are a four piece metal band from Sheffield UK. They formed in the new year of 2007 and have been going strong ever since producing a range of metal that defines them as an original sound for a broader, more mature musical audience. Describing the sound of Back to the Sea is an onerous task as they rarely seem to follow any set formula, or pre-established routine. Rarely playing the same set twice, Back to the Sea aim to keep you constantly captivated and thoroughly engaged every time they perform. Their first demo CD entitled ‘Volume 1 – Transcendency of loss’ recorded and produced late August 2007 showed great potential and originality, with The tracks moving between technical brutality and atmospheric post rock grooves the demo provides a progressive journey of understanding and musical devolution. BTTS make an authoritative statement of intertwining melodic simplicities with an overture of earthly man tones and non intrusive aggression. The following years saw Back to the Sea further develop these original stylings through public performance, lending their support to many signed and unsigned bands.

Performing to audiences both large and laughably small. The next recorded instalment came along in their self produced demo ‘Volume 2 – Acts of Digression’, Digitally mastered over the horizon of 2010 this CD expands on the themes already established in volume one showing a tighter, more focussed band delivering, innovating and maintaining their own , now identifiable sound. 2010 has been a big year for Back to the Sea, having just opened for Sepultura’s 25th anniversary tour in Sheffield and finishing the first merchandise run and artwork for the second CD. (At time of print) are now preparing for their upcoming Main support slot for Kruger in October. 2011 also promises to be a good year for BTTS as they are soon to start filming the music video for ‘The S-Word’ and have reached halfway point on the new-new Demo ‘Volume 3 – Mortal Score’. They promise to deliver more bone crunching girth and melodic escape as the story unfolds. Read more on Last.fm.
