Born Scott Hoffman on September 1, 1976, Babydaddy is the bearded multi-instrumentalist and lyricist for the American glam rock band, Scissor Sisters. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky, where he grew up as an American Jew and thanked his parents "for telling me I wasn't fat, just 'husky.' " Scott went to kindergarten with the producer of the American radio show NPR All Things Considered, Alison McAdam, and has since described his youth as having been spent as "a rock-and-roll kid." Scott attended Columbia University, where he studied writing and music production, and subsequently worked in the field of dance music. He called upon the services of his friend Jake Shears - then still known as Jason Sellards - to provide vocals for his tracks. He had met Jake through a childhood friend. When Scott moved to New York to study writing at Columbia, the duo officially joined forces and took stage names to become the first two members of Scissor Sisters in 2001, which at the time was just a project arising from the idea of combining Babydaddy’s music and Jake’s vocal and visual performances.

The band logo was designed by Babydaddy, who has since said that "it was sort of the first couple of days, and we decided to record music, and Jake had the name on the tip of his tongue. He told it to me, and I made the logo the next day. It was sort of done and made sense. And then we performed." Since then, the band has grown and recruited further members, in the process expanding its original musical style to cover the rock, disco and dance music genres.

As the band's multi-instrumentalist, Babydaddy plays a number of instruments including keyboards, guitar, bass and the banjo, and also is, along with Shears, the main lyricist for the band. He also wrote a hit single, I Believe In You, for Kylie Minogue with Jake Shears. Read more on Last.fm.
