Alpha Pup Records was formed in 2004 by producer Daddy Kev and business manager Danyell Jariel as a licensing entity to represent Daddy Kev's back catalog. Six months later, Kev and Danyell transformed Alpha Pup into a full-fledged label, serving as an outlet for experimental, creative and adventurous sounds. Alpha Pup combines standard label operations with artist management, album mastering, merchandising, licensing and promotion. In December 2005, Alpha Pup signed a digital distribution deal with Westbound Records, the classic Detroit indie known for it's releases by Funkadelic, Ohio Players, and P-Funk All Stars.

Westbound became Alpha Pup's first of many horizontal acquisitions for its digital distribution operation. This strategy led Alpha Pup to become the home for forward thinking labels such as Gold Standard Labs and Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder imprint. BBC One DJ Mary Anne Hobbs has supported the label from its inception and comments that "the artists involved with Low End Theory, with the Brainfeeder label, with Alpha Pup, with Leaving Records all have close ties with the UK". Alpha Pup represents over 40 of the world's top independent label and has become a trusted brand amongst global digital retailers. As the Alpha Pup family of labels grew, it coincided with the rising popularity of Low End Theory, a weekly club night co-founded in October 2006 by Alpha Pup label boss Daddy Kev.

Alpha Pup's roster of acts from the L.A. beat scene has helped establish the city as a world center for electronic music. Low End Theory has branched outside of Los Angeles to locations such as San Fransisco, New York, and Japan. Alpha Pup has a vertical integration of distribution, retail marketing, publicity, event promotions, street marketing, recording studio operations and royalty administration under one roof.
