An experiment in rapid, spontaneous, and collaborative production, it encompasses Alpen's Working Bee and Sopp Workshop: two processes which unfolded side-by-side during the first weekend of July 2008 at Sydney's Carriageworks arts precinct during the Underbelly Public Arts Lab + Festival. As Alpen's assembled crew of nine musicians improvised and recorded over seven hours of music, Sopp's band of visual artists photographed, sculpted, sketched, sewed and schemed. For each piece, both artists and musicians took a shared keyword as a prompt, a point of departure. The music of Alpen is dreamy, heavily influenced by his work as a member of post-rock outfit Plankton (where he mainly processed the audio of other instrumentalists, and samples), as well as by abstract pop artists such as Hood, Boom Bip, and The Flaming Lips. Alpen is currently preparing a new studio album, Inside The Sky, for a 2011 release. New EP Lost Friends was released in May 2011.

It sounds like many other things, and like nothing else at all." - Cyclic Defrost Read more on Last.fm.
