Shortly after she began combining her poetry with her music she started her performing career in 1996. Inspired by singers and songwriters such as Minnie Riperton, Tori Amos and Stevie Wonder, Aletta performed solo as well as being a member of hip hop groups in the late 90's. Her love for soul music and hip hop seemed difficult to combine with her songwriter material and therefore she mainly worked in projects. One of those project was 'Kozmik Booty', an experimental soul duo she formed with hip hop producer Toni Shift.

Aletta and Toni had met while working on the Hip-hop opera 'Da Traviata' where she would write for as well as playing one of the leading parts. In 2005 Kozmik Booty released their first EP 'Listening to the sounds of...', In the years following the release Aletta would appear on albums of several american hip hop artists such as Theory Hazit, Area51 and Random. In the meanwhile Aletta was still working on her solo material, and in 2009 she felt ready to record an album. She asked the help of producer Mack a.k.a.
