"King of this yet unnamed genre". A Viberatto was started by Jimmy Goodman in 2008 to perform compositions in a cinematic, simplistic style. Their first full length album titled "A" was released by King of Beasts Records, in June 2010. Being a recording engineer and producer with a lot of contacts, Jimmy was able to call on a great pool of talent to record "A". In addition to Jimmy on vibraphone, glockenspiel, piano, and synthesizer, Ross Rice played piano and organ, Maja Berwald added acoustic guitar, Nat Russell played electric guitar, Chris Macchia laid down Bass, Garth Hudson performed on accordion and melodica, Tony Levin did Stick, and Jane Scarpantoni played the cello. This led to A Viberatto being called a "million dollar band", and to be sure, there are many grammy awards between them.
A Viberatto "A" received both local and national acclaim. One review by David Malachowski (Kingston Daily Freeman) called the music “Stunning” “Completely original” Malachowski went on to say "No one can accuse Goodman of copying, borrowing or being derivative here, he is pioneering his own territory here, and is the undisputed king of this yet unnamed genre." Peter Aaron stated the music was a “gorgeous whirlpool” in his review (Roll Magazine) The A Viberatto tune “East” was featured on the NPR Podcasts “All Songs Considered - Second Stage” on 7/26/10. NPR stated “Beautiful Instrumental music with a touch of whimsy and a lot of heart.” Currently the core members of the group include founder Jimmy Goodman, and recent additions Guthrie Lord and Kol Marshall. These three multi-instrumentalists along with keyboardist Ross Rise and cellist Von Cello, have just completed the second release, somewhat predictably titled "B". Jimmy chose new members Guthrie Lord and Kol Marshall for their like minded musical approach and multi-instrumental talent.
Guthrie's contributions include Guitar, Bass, Piano, Bells, and "Guituthrie" - a guitar/bass hybrid of his own creation. Kol Marshall brings in a dash of rock flavor on Bass, Piano, Electric Piano and Synth. A Viberatto "B" began with these three new core members writing together as a trio, with a focus on more song-structured compositions. Each of the members also contributed their own personal compositions. The result is a diverse yet cohesive album of instrumental songs, rich in melody as well as texture.
"B" comes as a wonderfully evolved follow up to the group's debut. A Viberatto "B" is scheduled for release in November 2012. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
