Muhittin Şerif Targan (also known as Şerif Muhiddin Haydar or Fehametli Şerif Muhiddîn bin Ali Haydar) (1892-1967), was a Turkish classical musician and composer, playing ud and 'cello. Born in Istanbul, Turkey, to a wealthy family, Targan started learning the ud at six years old, going on to take private music lessons, and giving his first public perdormance when he was thirteen. From 1924 to 1932 he lived in New York, where he enjoyed success as a musician. Read more on Last.fm

Born in Istanbul, Turkey, to a wealthy family, Targan started learning the ud at six years old, going on to take private music lessons, and giving his first public perdormance when he was thirteen. From 1924 to 1932 he lived in New York, where he enjoyed success as a musician. Returning to Turkey, he joined the Istanbul City Orchestra. He founded the Baghdad Conservatory in 1936-1937, at the request of the Iraqi government.
